Medicare: Team-based Primary Care Model

Preamble

Whereas: Saskatchewan is estimated to have 200,000 people without a primary care physician;

Whereas: many primary care physicians are considering or nearing retirement, leaving Saskatchewan, or reducing the number of patients they serve due to workload;

Whereas: physicians indicate that administrative and other tasks are increasing, leading to a reduction in time for patients;

Whereas: Saskatchewan, as with most of Canada, has an aging population which often requires more time spent with certain patients by physicians;

Whereas: physician-led, team-based primary care has been shown to be an effective model for both physicians and patients;

Direction

Be It Resolved That: An SPP government, in consultation with the Saskatchewan Medical Association and the Saskatchewan College of Family Physicians, develop and implement a province-wide team-based primary care model beyond the inadequate, non-transparent, remote Health Network pilot project.
